Espying Elegance

A light and cheerful African-style home. The residents are Phyllipa and David Marrian, both artists. Their eye for color and style is apparent throughout the home.

Notice the weave rugs covering the floor and the barn-style door that is split in half. Charming!

A cozy living room full of handcrafted items.

More radiant white and a glass-bead chandelier that reflects even more light.

A cozy guest bedroom. The mosquito net above is, I am guessing, a necessity. But it adds such charm! I am also liking the light blue and grey hues.

Ah yes, and a splendid bathroom (with a clawfoot tub of course!) An African paradise!

I am loving this scarf/neck warmer. Handmade and very chic! A great accessory for a cold day!

Find it here.

Espying Elegance

A sweet little home in the countryside.

Notice the FABULOUS rug. I think you could center a whole room's design around it.

I want to have a costume party!

Wouldn't you love to have a masquerade? Especially around Halloween! And these dresses from A. McQueen would be dazzling!

Espying Elegance

The sweetest little cottage.
Very homey and simple but with flair. I love the idea of carpet over carpet as seen in the above picture. Just means extra softness!

I think every bathroom should have a towel warmer.

I wasn't sure at first, but I do like the exposed beams painted white. It makes the room seem larger.
Does that door lead perhaps to a secret garden beyond? I can dream, right?

I love grey

or...gray...however you want to spell it.

Simply scrumptious outfits!

Even colder temperatures could be handled in such get-ups as these ;)

Wouldn't it be lover-ly?

Every single time I look at this stone house it makes me happy.
And look at its sun-filled entry and gorgeous moulding...it is like a dream.
These have to be the cutest bunk beds I have ever seen.

The runway.

Models in outlandish outfits and frownish faces.

I never understood how designers got where they did by showcasing such clothes as these. I couldn't wrap my mind around the prestige and glamour fawned over what I perceived to be ridiculous wastes of cloth.
But I have tried to sift through and find for myself the meaning of all the fuss.
I have come to find that no one does wear those outfits but if you look closely you can see elements of a certain piece that you could indeed corporate into more everyday attire.
What you see strutting down the runway is merely the most extreme of extremes for a certain piece of clothing and acts as inspiration for the more practical.
Am I completely clueless to have figured this out so late? Maybe.
But that is my perception and hopefully now I won't be so afraid of the fast-paced world of fashion. Whew, okay. Glad I got that off my chest ;)

That being said, here are a few outfits that I eyed from designers A. Ferretti and Andrew Gn, respectively.

Espying Elegance

This Victorian home caught my eye because of its versatility from room to room. To start with, the warm colored den area with dark (probably painted) wood floors and dim lights.

Then, you find yourself in a bright white living room with sigh-inducing paneled walls
and windows to die for.

Finally, you step into this bedroom from another age with its gilded furniture and painted walls.

A lovely blend of old and new where each room is a surprise!

Imagine this coat in white...

and then you can picture what Mr. C gave to me yesterday. It was spontaneous, thougthful, and so very sweet!

Espying Elegance

A very feminine touch in this lovely home. I simply adore the overall white and black color scheme used throughout the home. It is cozy and chic at the same time. Enjoy!
