Espying Elegance

This Victorian home caught my eye because of its versatility from room to room. To start with, the warm colored den area with dark (probably painted) wood floors and dim lights.


Then, you find yourself in a bright white living room with sigh-inducing paneled walls
and windows to die for.


Finally, you step into this bedroom from another age with its gilded furniture and painted walls.



A lovely blend of old and new where each room is a surprise!

and then you can picture what Mr. C gave to me yesterday. It was spontaneous, thougthful, and so very sweet!

1. + = How I run
Yes, when I run I look something like a ballerina and a basilisk meshed together. Delicate and utterly graceless at the same time. I don't run much...



2. I am part Persian. My grandfather is from Iran. Most people are surprised by this since I don't look Iranian. I have all of the features---almond-shaped eyes, higher cheekbones, etc., but they are masked by my pale Irish skin.



3. Once, I caught a mouse in my hand. I put peanut butter on my (gloved) hand and waited by the kitchen sink for an hour until he trusted me enough to step onto my open hand. I named him Mr. McMouserson and then released him into the woods. (The picture is of the same type of mouse, though not actually the shot I have of the real Mr. McMouserson.)


4. At university I majored in History and received a minor in Anthropology.



5. My favorite color is silver





6. I am constantly compared to Giselle from 'Enchanted'. My facial expressions, gestures, and mannerisms are eerily the same. If you've seen the movie than you know what I mean.

Espying Elegance

This exquisite home accentuates its ancient architecture while balancing modern functionality.


This fireplace is breathtaking, with its large size and set into its own little alcove.

I am in love with the sweet little window on the right. I would happily sit by that window each morning and dream up lovely fairytales.

And of course a crowning adornment to the backyard-a pool and pool house. What sweet summer days one could pass here!

Mind the Gap

Some simply scrumptious finds at Gap. Bring on the Fall!

I was getting ready this morning and getting frustrated with what to do with my hair (didn't look good down, wasn't staying up...). Then I remembered a reason to smile.

Mr. C. does a lot of work with the youth in our church. He volunteers countless hours. The youth in our church come from many different backgrounds and families and have grown up in the roughest neighborhoods of the inner city. Their range of world experience usually doesn't go much farther than a few streets over from where they live. Mr. C. drives them to all church activities and meetings and on one such occasion I accompanied him to pick some of the youth up from a three day summer youth conference about an hour outside of the city. My hair had been frustrating me on that particular day too. So I leaned back and asked one of the girls to braid my hair so that it would just be out of my face (I cannot braid my own hair to save my life). Her dark hair was in several nice braids so I figured she would be much more successful at making my hair stay.

She was extremely hesitant and shy but finally agreed.

I leaned my head back a little and she put her hands out to separate my hair into parts.

I heard a little gasp.

Then,

"It's so soft!...It's like Barbie hair!"

Well, no one's ever said I have Barbie hair. I was flattered. And greatly amused. Apparently there is a first time for everything and I found myself smack in the middle of a cultural experience. It was sweet, innocent--- a moment that I will never forget.

And it makes me smile.
